Panasonic to merge 3 LCD units

Osaka - Panasonic will merge three LCD panel manufacturing units on October 1 with an aim to boost its competitiveness in the LCD business by streamlining operations.  IPS Alpha Technology will absorb Panasonic's two other LCD units in Japan.  Panasonic plans to change the name of the merged unit to Panasonic Liquid Crystal Display Co. Ltd. and relocate it from Mobara, eastern Japan, to Himeji.
